Blokus-A Mensa Award Winning Game
Blokus Trigon
24/07/2007 Paris, 1st February 2006
From square to triangle – the game gets tougher!

After the worldwide success of the Blokus Classic game, for two to four players, and of its variation, Blokus Duo, for two players, Sekkoïa is pleased to announce the publication of a brand new creation by Bernard Tavitian, which can be played by two, three or four players : Blokus Trigon.

A new format
Whereas Blokus Classic and Blokus Duo have a square board and square-shaped pieces, Blokus Trigon offers a radically new format : its board is hexagonal, and its pieces are composed of triangles. This variation provides a completely different game experience ! The Blokus rules remain the same (the pieces must only touch each other on the corners), but the triangular shape of the pieces gives rise to configurations and strategies that are totally new...

A pleasure for the brain cells… and for the eyes!
To become a Blokus Trigon champion, you need to be extra vigilant! An intersection point can now be used as a passage for two colours, rather than only for one as before… Moreover, the pieces can be composed of up to six triangles : the players must therefore place 22 pieces on the board, instead of 21. And these triangular pieces demand a spatial vision which is a little more precise than in the case of the square-shaped pieces, as well as a greater capacity for anticipation…

But what a pleasure it is to place them on the board and to see a magnificent stained glass window gradually take shape before your eyes!

Blokus Trigon will satisfy all the players who are already familiar with Blokus, particularly adults. It is an ideal game for three players.

Blokus-A Parents Choice Gold Award-Winning GameBlokus Trigon

Spring 2006 Games
Ages: 7 & Up
Manufacturer: Educational Insights, Inc.
Review:
In this game of territorial acquisition, the winner is the one whose playing pieces cover the largest area of the board at the end of the game. Each player starts with 22 pieces of a single color. Each piece has a different shape, formed by every possible configuration of from one to six triangles. The board is a hexagon subdivided into triangles, and the first piece each person plays must cover one of the designated starting areas. On subsequent turns each new piece must touch at least one other piece of the same color, but only at the points; there must be no contact along the sides. When no more pieces can be placed, each player totals the number of triangles on his un-played pieces, and the one with the fewest triangles left is the winner. The well-illustrated rules include helpful strategy tips. Although the game is designed for two to four players, our testers found it best with four.

Comparing Apples to Blokus ...

A broad appeal to both kids and adults is why games such as Educational Insights’ Blokus and Out of the Box Publishing’s Apples to Apples are best sellers. That was the consensus among the 57 retailers who spoke with TDmonthly Magazine. Monopoly is putting a new twist on an old classic, while card games and mind-twisters also entice game players. Here’s what’s doing well and playing well:
Blokus Trigon by EDUCATIONAL INSIGHTS.

The next in the series of the international best-seller Blokus, with more than one million copies sold, Blokus Trigon is a “chip off the ole Blokus” with a challenging new twist. Instead of the usual square game pieces, Trigon pieces are made of one to six triangles and must be fitted, tip-to-tip, on a hexagonal game board. Players choose a color and take turns placing pieces. Each new Trigon must touch only the corner of a similarly colored piece. Because the game piece angles jut in every direction, new strategies are always evolving and players never know when they may be blocked. Players are out of the game when they cannot place any of their remaining Trigons. The player who places the most pieces wins. The set includes a recessed game board, 88 Trigon pieces in four translucent colors and a guide. Designed for two to four players, it was launched in 2006.
— "Blokus by Educational Insights: I couldn’t keep it in stock," was the enthusiastic response from Karen Williams-Fox, owner of Woodbury Mountain Toys in Montpelier, Vt.
— Over 14 percent of retailers who spoke with TDmonthly named Blokus as their best-selling game.
— "Blokus Trigon takes family gaming to another level. It is extremely easy to learn, yet takes a strategic mind to win. The board and pieces are fun and colorful and it can be played by old and young alike," said Jim Whitney, president of Educational Insights.
